There is something we learned very quickly once we purchased our first home and that is that owning a home is expensive. Unless you’re buying a brand new house, chances are you’ll have some home improvements that you need to do.
The home we purchased was built in 1992 and so you can imagine what comes with that: older fixtures and cabinetry, older plumping, and a much older air conditioning unit.
When going through the home inspection, our inspectors noted that the air wasn’t cooling as quickly as it should, but the air conditioning unit was original to the house so it was to be expected. I mean, that’s a unit that’s just shy of 30 years. If it lasts until next summer, I’d be impressed.
But, we figured, why not get a general maintenance on the unit and figure out what’s going on with it. It’s better to have a solid idea of what you’re working with, and what you can expect to happen and when, so you’re more prepared for the bill that comes with replacing a unit, water heater, and ducts.
